Pre- Event Press Release|| Asian Confluence to host Indo-Japan Dialogue of North-East India


Asian Confluence in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan will host a one-day web-dialogue on the theme- Development of North Eastern Indian Region: Indo-Japan Collaboration for Connectivity, Commerce, Capacity Building, Culture and Conservation .


The dialogue will be addressed, at the highest level both by Mr. Harsh V. Shringla, Foreign Secretary of India and the H.E. Mr. Suzuki Satoshi, Japanese ambassador to India. The web-dialogue aims to highlight the key importance of Indo Japan collaboration for developing a secure and prosperous North Eastern region in convergence of India’s “Act East Policy”, and “Neighborhood First Policy”, towards a vibrant Bay of Bengal region and realising a common vision of a  “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.


The day long web-dialogue will dwell on various developmental issues and future opportunities for further India-Japan collaboration in Northeast India through three-session panel discussions. The second session will discuss Indo-Pacific and India’s North-East: Connecting the Dots. This session will have the speakers from the University of Tokyo, Chief Representative, JICA-India and Policy Director, JETRO, Japan. The third session will discuss India-Japan collaboration in North East India and will have panellist from Kyoto University, Secretary North Eastern Council, Commissioner and Secretary Planning, , North-Eastern Council, Government of Meghalaya and Government of Assam.

The last session will be a town hall where academicians and policymakers from India and Japan discuss the ways to increase cooperation in various areas such as people to people and cultural exchanges and the future of the Act East Forum.


The conference will witness the participation of various universities, research institutions, academicians, and students from across India, the ASEAN region and East Asia. The conference will also will hosted at ICSSR-NERC, Shillong. It will also be broadcasted live on the Asian Confluence Facebook page.
