Title of the project: Building ground-up evidence, capacity and networks for sustainable action on water and tourism in Meghalaya

Specific Objectives:

  • To gather evidence on critical water resource management/conservation needs, challenges and solutions in select locations across the state of Meghalaya

  • To identify and hand-hold ground-level institutions who can be strengthened to take up action on sustainable conservation of water resources.

  • To identify opportunities to promote community-driven sustainable tourism linked to water resource and adapting best practices from the region and beyond

Envisaged Outcome:

  • Action Plan and Strategy for 10 identified locations to incrementally promote them as:
  • Global tourist destinations
  • Spaces for showcasing of community-driven water and natural resource conservation and management
  • Identified Best Practices (on community-driven tourism and natural resource management) from the region and beyond to be adapted to specific locations in Meghalaya
  • Creation of direct and indirect livelihoods in these locations with emphasis on products and services that include agri-horti-floriculture, handicrafts, local art-forms, cuisines and performances

The project is a joint initiative between Asian Confluence and Meghalaya Basin Development Authority.
