Exploring Agricultural Cooperation between Japan and Northeast India

The geographical location of Northeast region (NER) of India plays a pivotal role in the Indo-Pacific region. Recognising the significance of the region, Japan has been extending assistance and investments in sectors including power, transportation, environment, livelihoods, etc. For instance, Japan’s overseas funding agency, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has facilitated a loan amounting to JPY 23,129 million (approximately INR 1492 crore) for National Highway 208 (Khowai-Sabroom) in Tripura under the North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project (Phase 6) in 2022 in the infrastructure sector.
